My photos come back very vivid and with a sharp print quality.Īdditionally if you’re looking for speed, MyPublisher has been the one of the fastest companies in book production and delivery. The vellum fly sheets featured at the front and back of the photobooks are a nice finishing touch and the binding is sturdy and neat. The paper quality is very good, with the Deluxe size (15x11.5) featuring thicker paper (182 lb.) than the Classic size (11.25x8.75) (115 lb.). Where MyPublisher excels is print quality and book construction.

(See update above - customization is now available.) If you want to have design flexibility you will be quite limited with this program. Custom layouts are possible but only if you create them with an outside design or layout program. You cannot customize the templates or change the layouts like you can with other photo book publishers. When you’re finished you preview the pages of the book and then upload the book and photos to the site. The ease of use however is what may also be its biggest limitation. Perhaps to keep the program and interface simple, MyPublisher limits customization to the provided layouts.

What initially drew me to MyPublisher was the ease of use of the software and the free book with book purchase offered to all new customers. With MyPublisher you download the software to your computer, select the photos you want to use and drag and drop the photos into the templates. Although the software is easy to use, it can slow down your computer considerably and the books themselves can be huge space hogs. 7.0 version is also available for PC users with option to customize your layouts and two-page spread.)

According to the company this will be made available for Mac users sometime this summer (2010).

The only full photo cover available for Mac users at this time is to order a dust jacket. The PC version also allows you to order the newest MyPublisher hardcover which they call “photo finish” which features your selected photo printed directly onto the surface of the book. For instance the latest PC version gives you a running total of cost as you build the book, while the Mac software doesn’t. MyPublisher is both Mac and PC compatible, though the Mac software features lag behind the PC version. Lay flat options are also available with an additional fee. Linen, leather and dust jackets are all possible cover options. MyPublisher offers only landscape photo books with three sizes in hardcover and two sizes in softcover. MyPublisher photo books will continue to be offered however other products such as cards and calendars will no longer be available.

Update : Shutterfly has acquired MyPublisher. I’ve been making photo books for about five seven years now and MyPublisher was the first company that I tried. MyPublisher has been in the photo book publishing business for quite some time – founded in 1995 and based in Valhalla, New York.
